I first have to say that I never really fully understood why Doug always wanted James to play hockey so badly. But after watching the Blackhawks battle Philly in the Stanley Cup Finals and triumphantly win - I have to say, I get it. I totally get it. Hockey is such an intense and exciting sport to watch and I can only imagine the intensity while playing. The feeling when the Blackhawks won was just of pure excitement and relief!

I was planning on taking James to the celebratory parade downtown but after seeing the amount of people down there already at 7am on the morning news, I decided against it. So, we opted for viewing the parade from the comfort of our own home. I talked with Doug at work and he said that you could hear the crowds from inside his office ... 25 floors up! We were watching the parade on the tv while I was giving James his snack and the announcer said, "Well, the barricades held them for a little while." That caught my attention and I looked to the screen and the fans broke through the barricades and were walking down the street following the parade. It was a sight to see - I cannot even imagine what it was like to be there.
The speeches were heartfelt, happy, thankful and inspiring. Way to go Chicago Blackhawks!
That reminds me of the night the Marlins won the World Series. D and I went down to Calle 8 with our friend Adam and watched people storm the streets, climb light poles, come out of their homes with pots and pans they'd bang with wooden spoons...and my favorite was the guy who put an air horn...train horn...some loud horn and a shopping cart and ran up and down the street with it. Amazing! Congrats on the win! :)
