14 Months

James is officially a toddler and is 14 months old! Holy Cow! When I look at James he is just not a little baby anymore - he is so a little boy. James has grown up so much. He can now move – he no longer sits still when I put him down. It’s like 1-2-3 GO! He’s so conversational with us now. His face is extremely expressive and he loves to laugh at himself and to make others laugh too. James is still our little studier, our explorer and our loving little guy. James is just … well, he’s 14 months old now. James is growing up really, really fast. Enough with the sentimental and sappiness. Onward to the adventures of James.

James has three signs now - more, milk and music. What a combo right? Is there anything more to life? Ha! Right now, in terms of music, we're listening to Bobby Darin. What? I know. Here's the story. So Mack the Knife came on the radio and James just lit up. Mom and James started singing and dancing around and just had so much fun. So during nap time Mom looked up the song on itunes and checked out what other songs were on Mr. Darin's greatest hits and found out she was a huge Bobby Darin fan and had no clue. "Dream Lover" is one of Mom's all time favorite songs and when we sing it, we do the same moves Charlie Sheen does in Hot Shots. I'm not proud of this but will own this - you better believe I do the arm shakes to the left and to the right with the "yeah-yeah yeah" during the chorus.

KEYS! Oh my goodness gracious - James will pretend to want to hug a stranger if they are dangling his/her keys. It's happened - with the photographer that came to our house. Now James has a set of keys that Mom made for him that are comprised of the various 'mystery' keys we've found over the years that have surfaced in our home. James loves to hold the keys, shake them, hold them each up singularly, and of course, show them off.

And then, there is my wallet, oh my wallet. Before we get to this, there's a back story.

From Christmas a few years ago, my parents gave Doug and my brother Batman Velcro wallets as funny gifts and now the Batman 'very big boy' wallet belongs to Mr. James D. Sennott. This wallet has been a lifesaver at every store we have been to since 'the meltdown.' Oh yes. At Whole Foods, Mom was paying and James took Mom's wallet right out of her hands and then had a meltdown when Mom had to take it to pay. The cashier (bless his heart) said, "I have stickers, I have stickers, will that help?" Poor guy. The stickers did kind of help but it was the wallet that made James stop crying. Oy vey. But since the introduction of the Batman wallet - we're all good.

James is walking everywhere, all of the time, all over the place. James likes to go on tours of our house - he walks us from room to room. Sometimes he likes to investigate certain things - for example, the hair dryer in the bathroom - but then, continues on his way through the house. We do this probably 10 times a day. For variety, Mom and James will head into the hallway or down to the lobby to visit with the doorman. Everyone loves to see him and chat with him so it's fun to people watch and chit chat during the day. A few times, we've played with Lou and Rufus, two doggies that live on our floor - they COVER James in kisses and just circle him. James gets so excited!

So, when we went to physical therapy, we showed Bridget how James could crawl and how he could walk. Bridget said, 'I have seen over 200 children and James is the only baby I have seen that has crawled that way.' Mom was not assured by that comment but then to lighten the mood, Mom told her she and Dad call James the sidewinder. After laughing, she told me she was going to use that as a name for it if she sees it again. Glad we could help Bridge.

Goldfish. I don't have anything other to say than James loves Goldfish. Loves them. Can't get enough of them. Wants them all the time. Reaches for the cabinet they are in while eating other meals. Do they still make the big carton of them? Perhaps at Costco?

James now holds the phone to his ear when he sees it. The stage of James being our little mimic has begun. We are very excited :o) Things so far - James can also do the lip wiggle sound - when you move your fingers over your lips like in old Bugs Bunny cartoons. Loves to do it himself and to others. James can also do the Indian call. . . or Native American call. We like to be as PC as we can around here :o) Mom did it after singing 10 Little Indians and now it's a sound we enjoy every day. His little voice - ah ah ah ah. Adorable. We now say, "Arms up" and we all lift our arms up high in the sky and then laugh.

Ha! James can dial people on our phone. I laugh, because I haven't told Auntie E this story yet. Being the wonderful Aunt she is, Erica knew we were at music class because it was a Wednesday and after class, I saw that I had received a text from her asking if I had called earlier. No, it was James! I didn't even know what to say on your voicemail because I was so in shock. James has figured out how to go to the directory on our phone and call people. So watch out! You may be getting a phone call from James! James also knows how to conference call. Mom and Dad do not.

During bath time the other night, James discovered Dad's watch. James watched Dad put the watch on James' wrist and then James did it himself. Of course, we were thoroughly impressed - so now, James loves wearing a watch. James was sporting Mom's watch the other day during snack time. Mr. Big Stuff himself.

The word no and discipline have arrived at the Sennott house. No one likes to say no and I'm pretty sure James doesn't like hearing it, but we're running a tight ship around here. It's gotta be done. We just love James so much and just want the best for him.

James has a new noise - it's a popping noise with his lips and the squeaking noise you make when you put your lips together and suck air in. We have no idea where he learns these things. :)

James loves watermelon even tries to slurp up the juice from the tray. Other favorites include raviolis, blueberries, grapes, broccoli, green beans, carrot circles, cheese cubes, cheese crackers, and yogurt - can't even say the word around him - when we go to the fridge to get it out, he squeals as if he were getting cookies. If any of you Mommys out there are having a hard time with broccoli - try cutting it up really small and mixing in apple sauce. I read that the sweet taste buds are at the tip of the tongue and that's where most of the food touches first. Works like a charm around here - James is a broccoli lover.

James is trying hard to hold a cup by himself and drink but then gets excited and interested in the cup and milk goes everywhere.

He also likes to try to feed himself with a spoon from his bowl. Today, he abandoned the spoon and slurped the applesauce out of the bowl. Then, he got excited, it spilled all over himself and then, he realized what had happened, got sad and then he signed for more. What a cutie.

James loves to wear Mom's sunglasses - Mommom is sending us her old ones so that if James bends them and they break, it's ok. James thinks he is the coolest thing in the world when he's wearing shades. People (read: Complete Strangers) absolutely help this behavior because they just always respond with how cute and adorable he is. James just loves it. Seriously, check this guy out.

James now has his first set of crayons - they are washable and non-toxic. He had been grabbing pens from Mom and Dad trying to copy us, so we got him some crayons. So far, he loves the colors, loves to hold them and is excited by the fact that he can see he's doing something when the color appears on the paper. Sometimes he gets so excited that he holds them in his hands and scoots around in a circle on the floor while making squealing and squeaking noises. Isn't it great to be a child? It's infectious to watch. Nothing but smiles around these parts.

James now makes a "blah" noise. We're not sure if it counts as a word. This kind of happened by accident. Mom was hanging out with James in his room and James went to touch the diaper pail and Mom said, 'Oh No James gross, ew, blah.' You know what he did? He looked at me and stuck out his tongue and said, "Blah?" and I laughed and said, "Yes, Blah." And now, we have blah. Since then, James loves touching things he's not supposed to or putting things in his mouth he's not supposed to just so he can say blah. Good times. Just as long as the things aren't too gross, we don't mind it. We must admit, it's really cute to hear this little voice say, "Blah."

Oh James.

I know this is long, but I can't help it. I know this is my last blog post until July 14th. Sigh. I'll miss doing this and at this point, I can only imagine that the next blog entry will be the length of a book. Just know that I'm going to be working my hardest to get my work done so I can get back to this for James and for our readers!

As always, here are some of our favorite shots from the last month.

  1. I love the wallet idea, definitely filing that one away for later use! He's a cutie-pie, that's for sure!
