We started physical therapy with Cillian. He goes twice a
week and sees a wonderful therapist named Leida. She is a doll. But she makes
Cillian work which is great. At this point, Cillian is developmentally around
6-7 months even though chronologically he is almost a year. After our initial
meetings and evaluations, Leida said she was thinking about things and where
Cillian is and she said that when he had his eye surgery and his eyes were
opened fully, it was like his developmental clock reset at 0 months. I thought this was a great way of looking at
things. It was very helpful to me to see things through this lens if you will.
It gave me a reason for the whys I had. I mean I know that he couldn’t sit
because he couldn’t see and he was tilting back to see. I know that. But
viewing it in this way was helpful to me because it gave me a context or a plan
I guess or a way of looking at things. I don’t know if I’m being clear or not
but I’m trying J I
guess what I’m trying to say is that I’m happy. I feel good about this. I like
her as a therapist and I’m excited to see where this is going to go and excited
to learn how I can help Cillian and what he will accomplish! Here are photos I
took of him on the wedge working so hard! Way to go Cillian!!!
He grunts and
moans during the exercises and Leida told me that she always thinks of body
builders who grunt when they lift weights when she hears the little guys
working so hard. That helped me control my urge to lift him up and snuggle him.
I cheered him on. When he cries because he is exhausted Leida lets me hug him.
But then it’s back to work. She is good for him and for me. Also she is
wonderful because she lets James come to the sessions. This is what James and I
do while Cillian is giving 150% for 50 minutes twice a week.
