Flowers

For James’ birthday, he received this seed planting kit that came in an egg carton. Today, we planted the seeds while sitting on the floor of the kitchen. It was awesome. I took these photos a few days later after we had left them on a sunny window sill and watered them every day. The planting set came with a journal as well and James has been "taking notes" and measuring the seedlings. I can't wait to see how they continue to grow. James is very excited. The plants are growing so quickly so it's great for a four year old because they can see changes in the plants each day - it's really an awesome gift!

When we bought the house, I noticed what looked like to be tomato protector things in the backyard in three spots. They are the open-cylinder like wire holder things (I know - great job explaining Meg) and I had no idea what they were there to support. BUT THEN - I had such a wonderful surprise when the huge green bushes in our yard started to flower – they were PEONIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I couldn’t believe it! I had been paying $14 a bunch at the farmer’s markets in the city for these flowers and now they grow in our backyard! I clipped some and put them in vases throughout the house – oh my gosh did our house smell wonderful. It was like being in a dream. Now June is even more fun – it’s when our peonies bloom!
