Closets

So June 17th - exactly one month from May 17th (the day we moved) we finally got our closets installed. Woo Hoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, so for a month, we had no closets and we basically couldn’t unpack any of the clothes boxes because I had nowhere to put the clothing. Because we had no closets. Evil little cycle there huh? So we had portable hanging closets and each of the boys had about 6 rotating outfits and pajamas and Doug had work clothes and about a week’s worth of regular clothing. I did too. Doug and I each had a drawer for clothes and the boys had a temporary closet on wheels. Doug had one of these too for his work clothes.

The house is 100 years old and the closets were tall and narrow with just a single bar stretching from one side to the other. The ceilings here are tall which is great so we were able to use that space better. Instead of just one bar across in the boys’ closets, we used the space to create four hanging areas and some shelving. In our room, there were two separate closets and one of the doors was right behind the entrance door to our bedroom and Doug smacked his hand in-between doors enough times during one visit (pre-move-in) to say, “That’s it – we’re closing up this door!” And the hand smacking lead to a great idea – knock the wall down in-between the closets, close off the other door and put dry wall up and make it one huge closet. So we did.

Here are some before and after shots. I was so relieved when those closets went up. I could finally wash and put away the clothing! And get rid of the boxes :)

The newly one big closet - you can see the spot on the left where the other wall had been

No shame here - this was our bedroom for a month. Boxes boxes everywhere.

Cillian so happy his room was free of boxes!!! And his playmat was down and his rug!

Because James was still napping, I only took photos of Cillian's room after the closets were finished.

And this was the finished master bedroom closet. I cannot tell you what a relief it was to finally get settled in and wash and put away our clothes! We were finally making headway in unpacking the second floor!!!!
