One Month

Cillian was One Month yesterday! We celebrated tonight with a nice dinner and cupcakes from our favorite place Sweet Mandy B's! James was so excited when we told him we had a surprise dessert and even more so when he guessed what it was. He is so cute. Honestly though, I can't believe that an entire month has gone by. The days go by so quickly with one child and they are over in a blink of an eye with two. Some days I can't believe it when I look at a clock and it's already late in the afternoon. Seriously.

To be completely honest, we're pretty tired. Cillian has his days and nights mixed up. My Nana would say to me, "Be so glad he doesn't have his nights and days mixed" when James was little. Now I know why she said that. What makes it a little more difficult is that Cillian has colic/acid reflux. He's been given a prescription for baby zantac. It's helped a lot but there are still hard feedings, lots of crying, and lots of spit-up. It's in this area that he and James are most different. James and feeding was like oh my gosh so easy. Silly easy. Like I said, the medicine is helping a lot so hopefully things will continue to get better for him. I feel so horrible for the little guy. I know he's in pain and I just don't know what to do for him.

Over the last month, Cillian's earned a nickname of sorts - it really comes from us starting to say James and then correcting ourselves. Ja'Cillian. We laugh. Cillian shares his birthday with Walter Payton so "Sweetness" may have to become Cillian's official nickname though.

One night, in the beginning, I was half asleep/half awake and I was dreaming (I think) and I started thinking of "Stir it Up" by Bob Marley and hearing it in my head. Then I started singing Cillian instead of Stir it Up and now that's the song we sing to Cillian. Even James sings it and when he does it is SO ADORABLE I can't even describe it. "Little darling, Cillian ..." He loves being sung to - his favorites (or the ones that calm him the most) are the adapted Stir it Up and Baby Mine (the song from Dumbo when the Mom is chained up swinging Dumbo in her trunk).

Cillian is already cooing and "talking" and he does this SO MUCH when James is not around. :) When James is around, Cillian is very quiet and watches James but as soon as James is out of the house - Cillian's chatting up a storm. James imitates Cillian's little cries or chirps - it's a pretty good imitation actually. I'm not too surprised though. James takes after me and is very talented :) James also gets a lot of exposure to it - Cillian does NOT like his diaper changed at all. Ever. I think once he hasn't cried. Once.

Anytime James is in the room, Cillian will swing his head toward his voice. Cillian is very interested in what James is doing and saying. The reverse is not always true. James has been very good adapting to the presence of Cillian. However, there are some times where we are very aware that James is in need of some special attention from Mom or Dad. We're doing our best. It's hard now with three adults in the house and it's going to be much more of a challenge when my Mom is not here.

Cillian is such a snuggler. Such a snuggler. He looks for snuggles and kisses. He'll actually turn his head for you. He also moves his head to get it as nestled as he can in whatever position he's in. He especially loves to nestle right under my chin. He loves to be held. Cillian, just like James was, is calmed by me dancing to music. I love this.

Here are some photos from Cillian's first month!

The next three photos are a wonderful example of how hard it was to get a shot of these two. .

  1. So precious, love the photos. And the reference to Baby Mine! My girls LOVED that song as babies! I didn't even realize it was from Dumbo until recently...but we had a bear that someone gave us when they were born that sang that song. I pushed that button a million times when they were little and they instantly were quiet! It is STILL in their room and they still listen to it occasionally!
