The last day of swimming for James was Sophie's last day with us. We all went together - Cillian had no therapy that day because his therapist had to be with her daughter for a school orientation so it really worked out perfectly. I was able to take these photos of my little guy being so brave and really just giving 150% in that pool.
I mean for some kids, they get swim lessons and boom - it just fits and they're swimming by the end of the summer and that's great! But with James, he had such a bad experience with the first round of lessons and he was pretty spooked when he started. He was so cautious in the water and you guys, just watching him transform over the last month and a half was amazing. In two weeks, he went from level one to level two and was so proud of himself. He actually earned a ribbon (YES EARNED) by completing certain things and being able to perform certain skills. It is hanging on his wall.
He finished his swim lessons this year by being able to put his face in the water and blow bubbles and swim (kick) while holding on to a floating bar or his teacher. He doesn't yet have the confidence to do it alone but the teacher said he could do it on his own for sure. He just has to feel confident - he has to be ready to let go. He is on board for this next summer which is great. James was so excited to go every day and there was never one time that he wasn't 100% ready to go. It really gave him a lot of confidence and a lot of reasons to be proud of himself. It also was something that was just about him. That he could come back and talk to me and Doug about - things that James did. It was nice to have that balance all of the things we talk about with Cillian and his therapies and exercises. I'm glad we were able to do this for James this summer.
Here's James at his last lesson. Way to go big guy - we are so so so VERY proud of you!
WAY TO GO JAMES!
