It has been COLD here - it was -17 with the windchill the other day. However, the upside is that it's been snowing a lot here too! Right now as I type this, it looks like I'm sitting in a snow globe. It's really really pretty. It's *almost* beautiful enough to make me ignore the noise from upstairs and the stench of shellac or paint thinner or wood sealant. *Almost.* Thank goodness for air purifiers.
ANYWAY ....
This weekend there was a great amount of snow on the ground for SLEDDING! This year, Doug didn't take James across the street. Nope. He took him to one of the BIG sledding hills in the burbs. It worked out nicely because both of them had haircuts up that way so it made sense that they'd go for their first big sledding excursion too. To say that James enjoyed himself would be a gross understatement. Doug took video of them walking up the stairs (that's how big the hill is) and I was surprised that James and Doug didn't just completely pass out right after dinner. There was also a train track next to the hill and huge freight trains would go by. Again, James was in heaven. Doug said he was the only kid watching the trains. I love him. They had so so so much fun. I don't think James will ever go back on our little hill across the street again. I don't blame him though - I mean once you go down a huge hill, that's it. I have some of the best memories from my childhood sledding. I remember once my brother and I got so much speed going down our big hill that we kept going all the way down our street into the col-de-sac when we lived in VA. Good times. I hope the memories James made with Doug on Saturday stick with him too.
So where was Cillian? And me? Oh we were at home snuggled in all nice and warm. I cannot even tell you how weird it is to have just one child home. I didn't know what to do with myself. The house got clean - like, clean. I know. Cillian and I read, we sang, we danced, we played with a top, blocks, all sorts of stuff. It was crazy. He also had apples for the first time. I took James' advice and made pink lady applesauce for him. It's our favorite apple right now. Yeah ... they are a *touch* bitter so the faces Cillian was making eating this for the first time were priceless. Now he loves it. I just made pears and he'll have those tomorrow. Oh my gosh it was so hard not to eat any more than my "sample" spoonful :)
I also took some photos of my little guy on Saturday. The sky was cloudy and it was perfect lighting. I am not into photo-shop or anything so my photos are - au natural - for lack of a better word. Right off the memory card and uploaded for your viewing pleasure.
Stay warm everyone!
