This year for Thanksgiving we stayed here in Chicago and just hung out the four of us. It was a normal Thanksgiving except for two things. James had a sore throat and was feeling blah because of it and he didn't eat the turkey. He saw the turkey being prepped and asked us, "Is that a bird? Like a real one? Was that alive?" Our silence did nothing but allow him to think through it all and he just wouldn't even try it. He said the smell of it cooking was making him sad. I mean. It was awful and sad and I even felt badly eating the turkey. We also had a ham THANK GOODNESS (no pun intended) and I was adamant about keeping ham just ham if you catch my drift. James thinks that ham, bacon and polish kielbasa come from nowhere I guess. I will try to keep it that way for as long as I can because this child will not eat turkey unless it comes from the deli at the grocery store. He still hasn't put together that chicken tenders are from chickens. Otherwise, I'll be raising a self-proclaimed vegetarian. James eating bacon and ham ignorantly always reminds me of The Simpsons episode where Lisa turns vegetarian:
Anyway, we did have a nice time spending time with one another despite James' cold. Oh yes and Doug took James down to walk-in hours in the city and came home and said, "I spent over an hour waiting after driving all the way down there and some nurse came in - not even a doctor - and told me - Your son has a virus - and then left." I just smirked and said, "Yep, welcome to my life." That right there is when I started seriously considering changing pediatricians. It was awful having to drive back and forth into the city and to have to wait that long too. We had been waiting that time for well visits for both boys since we moved and saw the doctor for like 10 minutes. Finally Doug experienced it too.
But, back to Thanksgiving weekend - here are some photos I took during the weekend. Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving with their families!
