Today wasn't out of the ordinary in anyway, but it was a fun day actually. A lot of fun things happened to James and of course, I had no camera with me....I think I should just leave it in the stroller. Or have a stroller camera. My stroller camera is usually my phone ... but my phone was toddler hijacked and is missing. Day 2 of it missing. . .
Since potty training is in full effect, I have found myself another thing to be neurotic about - not with a happy tone of voice, but thick with sarcasm. I now fear leaving the house. What if he has to go when we're out? What happens? What do I do? Where do we go? All of these said with a non-catastrophic tone, but with a calm realistic one - Where do I take him? What if he freaks out about a public restroom? All things that are being considered simultaneously.
So despite these issues, we leave the house. I am power-walking to the farmer's market. We scored delicious eats and in fact had a farmer's market dinner - 100% veg tonight :) It was delish. Zucchini and Onions, Sweet Potatoe Sticks, Skillet Red Potatoes and amazing Heirloom Tomotoes in such a wonderful balsamic (from the same farm) and Blueberry pie also found its way onto our menu ...
Anyway, after the Farmer's Market, I took James by the fire house and the firemen welcomed us in and this time James wanted to touch the firetruck - he touched the lights, the bumper, the hose, and then the fireman let James touch/hold (it was VERY heavy) his helmet. James was in a trance-like state of excitement. It was covered in soot and had scratches. It was very sobering to see. I told Doug that it made me fully realize that our son idolizes such a dangerous but also very honorable profession. But, I would be the proudest Mom in the world if that's what James wants to be in life.
I digress. Then the fire chief rolls in, sees James (now accompanied by another 2 year old boy and his Mom) and throws on the lights to his vehicle but no sirens (thank goodness) and both boys say, "Wwwwwwhhhhhhhooooooooaaaaaaa!" All the firemen are like beaming just smiling at each other. It was awesome. I will bring my camera next time. I will bring my camera next time.
Then, I pull James away because now the fear of no diaper returns, we thank the firemen and I promise James 1,000 times we'll go back. I power walk back to our place. As soon as we stroll onto the driveway, the Construction Foreman is speaking with our building engineer. James becomes silent, smiles, and just points at the man and whispers, "Roadwork." I imagine, this would be my reaction to seeing Viggo Mortenson or Brad Pitt. We stand there chatting with the foreman and I tell James this is the man from the construction site we watch with the excavator. The foreman is impressed with my vocab and I find myself strangely proud of myself. I let him know we watch him and his team every day. He let James know even cooler stuff is coming.
This was all before 9:30am.
And we made it home dry :)
Woo-Hoo!
That is quite a fun morning! :) YAY!
