For all of our readers living in the suburbs or established areas, this is something that you may not ever have to deal with in your life. But, for us city dwellers, especially city dwellers in areas that are not yet covered completely by buildings, we are alwways facing a distinct possibility. There is always the possibility of a building going up right next door to your own building.
This is what is happening to us.
When we first moved here after college, we lived in a building with windows that looked directly into another building - if we were so inclined, we could have most likely read the lips of our building-neighbors when they were speaking. But here, we've been spoiled with our views south and east. And now, our parking lot across the street is closed and a building is going up in its place.
I'm sad about it. But Doug says that we've known for quite a while so it's ok. But, me, I'm just sad because James won't be able to watch the trucks go into the building across the street anymore. He won't be able to see the fire boat anymore. But, like the title says, it's city living.
On the positive side of things, this was in the parking lot this morning.
James could not be removed from his window.
"Roadwork" has come to our house in full force and someone is very excited. Front-end loaders, bulldozers, jack-hammers, cement trucks, hard hats and neon vests are a-comin' folks.

You learned all the names of that "construction equipment" from the book you got him ...am I right, or am I right? Sorry about your change in scenery...but hey, you live in a great city! Be happy! xoxo
