Hey Jude

Well, tonight's post is full of lots of happy but because of a tough situation. Like we said earlier, James' top teeth are coming in and not one at a time. Little guy has been having a rough time and today was probably (hopefully) the worst of it. This morning Mom and James journeyed up to the burbs to hit a Target for some baby-proofing items - we will post more on THAT later. Good grief is baby-proofing a nightmare. Anyway, we were in the car and James was very chatty and then "Hey Jude" came on the radio and Mom was singing along and then James started singing!!!!! It was ADORABLE! The best was at the end with the "Naaaaaaaaa, na na na na na na - Na na na na - Heeeeeeeeey Jude." James was just singing as loud as he could "la la la la - naaaaaaaaa - aayyyyyyyeee" - Mom was beaming with pride. I have to say that "Hey Jude" is one of my favorite Beatles songs - it's a close second to my favorite Paul song which is "Let it Be." We love the Beatles in this house but we also love love love The Stones. One of their songs James loves is "She's Like a Rainbow." James will have an appreciate for The Beatles and The Stones because both groups are just amazing and their music is undeniably powerful. Sometimes you are just so in the mood for The Stones and other times, like today, you've got to go with The Beatles. There is so much to love and to know about both groups. But, I digress.

This afternoon, James was just in terrible pain. None of the usual soothers - teething biscuits, ice, wooden spoons, spatulas, cold toys, Mom's fingers - would work.

So then when Dad came home, I told him about our "Hey Jude" sing-a-long and we started singing it again and James smiled and laughed for the first time after a long and painful afternoon. Dad started an assembly line of icing teething toys and giving them to James (assembly line was needed because these toys don't stay cold too long!) and James sat on Mom's lap while we listened to "Hey Jude" on repeat and sang our hearts out - funny what things work sometimes.

After James' gums were nice and numb, he and Dad played with Tias while we let the ipod choose which Beatles songs we were to enjoy.

So tonight, in honor of James, please sit back, relax, enjoy the lovely voice of Sir Paul and sing along to "Hey Jude" for us.
