My James

I took these photographs of James in his room because looking at him I knew I wanted to remember him this way. This room, James' room in the condo, has so many emotional memories for me. It's where I learned how to be a Mom. It's where I rocked and fed and sang to my first baby boy. It's where we would look out the window together waiting for Doug to come home. We'd sing our Daddy song and look for his taxi and then when we saw him, we'd rush out into the hallway and wait for the elevator to ring and then James would be carried down to Doug, then he'd toddle, then he'd run with all his might and Doug would scoop him up into his arms. But all of these memories just overtook me when I saw James sitting there on his window. This was the day before we moved. I let him sit there for as long as he wanted. I knew he needed to sit there and look at his fireboats and the construction and the cars and the people. My little James.
