James is doing great! He's right where he needs to be developmentally and physically. His appointment was nice and quick and easy. He weighs 37.5 pounds which is the 50-75th percentile and is 40 inches tall which is the 50th percentile. Perfection. There was only one hic-up. A big hic-up.
Someone didn't want to get vaccinated. The vaccines were for Polio and MMR. They were happening. I tried to explain that these were fighters coming into his body and they were going to protect him against these horrible viruses and he was all for that. He thought that was awesome. He no likey the shot. He screamed and yelled and told the nurses to stay away from him and that he didn't like them at all. Then he started calling them ... wait for it ... Pompous Windbags. Yep.
Screaming, "YOU POMPOUS WINDBAG!" "DON'T TOUCH ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Then I restrained his arms (as instructed by Pompous Windbag #1 aka nurse 1) and each nurse held each of his legs in between their legs. At this point I realized perhaps they'd done this before ....
Anyway, after ensuring my face had at least calmed from purple to bright red, I very quietly but sternly told James, "IF you behave that way again, YOU will pick a toy and put it in a garbage bag and you will throw it away. Do you understand me?"
Then, I walked James out of the room and over to the nurses station and I said, "James? What have you to say to each of these nice ladies?" And then he apologized through sniffles and post-cry deep breaths. I was SO embarrassed.
So yep. 4.
P.S. The insult, "pompous windbag" is found in both the Jungle Book and Cinderella. Ah modeling. You pervasive and inescapable psychological concept.
