The Helmet Part Deux

So the helmet. Remember I was complaining about how the helmet never fits correctly, Cillian always cries, it's sliding forward, it's squishing his eyes etc etc.? Well, he was hardly ever wearing it and I was cycling through this ... cycle (?!?) sorry for lack of a better word there ... of frustration, guilt and fear. Frustration with the helmet, guilt for not having him wear it or guilt for making him wear it and fear that it was going to damage his eye surgery implants. It was the most fun cycle of emotions ever.

So, over James' spring break we had a helmet appointment. Truth be told, he hadn't been wearing it and luckily, as we were walking in to our appt room, the technician looked at him and I just blurted out, "That's how it always is - titled forward, scrunched down on his face and squeezing his eye shut. All the time. We fix it every 2 minutes. Literally. It's awful." And then I felt horrible that I just said that out loud. But then, she said, "That's not okay. We are going to fix this. How long can you guys hang out here today?" I said however long it takes. This is after *weeks* of me saying it wasn't fitting correctly. Weeks.

So, the lovely Joanne told me that she'd be right back - she was going to do a group conference call. She came back and told me that they were going to do another helmet for us. No charge.

We were there for almost two hours. I had things packed for both boys to last for a 30 minute appointment. Cillian ate and feel asleep on me a few times poor guy. James was amazing. Literally amazing. I gave him my iphone to play with after 45 minutes. We had read all of his books, colored and played ispy a few times too. He is such an angel. After he ran out of his apps, I showed him how to play this bubble popping game and he loved it. Then he started taking photos with my phone. Here are a few of them - they're not that bad actually!!!

Then I took him for a cookie at one of our favorite bakeries up there. Both boys did such a great job - all the techs and the secretaries were like jaws on the floor impressed with how well both of them behaved. We really have been blessed with two wonderful boys.

But the real meat of the story is this - the helmet is working out wonderfully. Cillian is doing a great job!!! I am writing this April 21 (so he's had it on now for 3.5 weeks). It's posted for April 1 though - Momma's doing some catch-up :)

Here's a few photos of our big guy in his new helmet!
