Our wee little Cillian is 9 months old. It really makes me have to stop and actually think it through. Sometimes I feel like he is perpetually 6 months old. I don't why I keep thinking this but I do - people ask me how old he is and I have to stop and think and then I say "He's almost 9 months old!" with a very shocked tone. You should see the looks I get in return. It's funny - well, it is.
Cillian's 9 month appointment will be on 4/30 so I'll update the stats then. Right now Cillian takes between 4-6 bottles a day and still averages between 24-27 ounces a day. He eats two solid food purees a day with fruit in the morning and then veggies in the afternoon. I know we should be at 3 meals a day but with the commute I just can't swing it. He's exhausted by the time we get home and just wants a bit of a bottle and then to just knock out for a while. Cillian is in size 3 diapers and size 9 month clothing. Some of the 9 month clothing is a little big on him but we just roll the sleeves a bit and he's good.
Cillian is making all sorts of sounds and screams. His laugh is hilarious. It's like this deep old man laugh. James does a really good impression of it. I'll try to see if I can get some video of him laughing without me in the background sounding like a fool. We'll hope. Speaking of James, whenever James is close to Cillian, Cillian will slowly reach out and try to touch James - put his hand on him or just reach out to like pet him. James usually moves away at the last moment and then poor Cillian looks so sad.
Most days James wants nothing to do with Cman at all. But overtime James has started to realize that Cillian is not going to drool all over him or put him in his mouth (real concerns here people). More often now James will willingly (!!) hug him or give him a pet or tell him he loves him. The smile that Cillian has on his face after these hugs and kisses is just so amazing. It's really cute and just so innocently perfect.
Cillian has been spending a lot of time in his office and when he does one of the activities (sometimes I am in the kitchen or coming back from the bathroom) and I hear James say, "Yay Cillian! Great Job!" Then I look at Cillian and he looks so shocked. It's pretty funny - I don't think I'm doing it justice. I think he's just so floored James is talking to him and that he did what he wanted to do (spin a wheel or make the cow moo).
Cillians fingers are in his mouth all the time. ALL THE TIME! If his aren't, he reaches over if we're holding him and starts gnawing on my thumb or Doug's thumb. We have to stop swaddling him soon. He's almost out of the sleep sack with the swaddle. James reached the weight limit at 3 months. Cillian's approaching it now - I hope this goes smoothly. I think he's going to wake himself up all night with the fingers in the mouth. Oh well, we'll see how it goes.
He just started sucking his lip in and out the other day - he does it mostly when he's eating and it's really the cutest thing. I laugh pretty hard.
If he's in his office or on the floor or in the bouncer and starts whining/screeching a little I'll go over and ask, "Up?" and hold my arms out and then he'll put his elbows out and arms up a little to be lifted. If we put Cillian on his stomach he immediately rolls over - immediately. It's like he has no tolerance for being on his stomach.
We've been working on sitting - he's getting better. Cillian does wonderfully as long as something is holding his attention but as soon as he realizes he's sitting and it's taking effort it's like forget it. He loves the couch gazing position James did at this age too. However, he's just not strong enough yet to keep himself standing. He usually topples over after a bit. I managed to get three photos before he started to fall. The last one is blurry - chose my child over photography :)
And music. Music is a big part of Cillian's life. Each day in the car we listen to music and it's Disney songs and music from the 50s/60s that also plays on that pandora channel. I was singing Mr. Big Stuff to him the other day and he was smiling and laughing. James looked at me and said, "Mom Cillian is small did you know that? Is that the wrong song for him?" I explained that sometimes it's fun to sing a song like that because Cillian thinks he's Mr. Big Stuff so we can let him think that. Now James will say, "Mr. Big Man who is you think you are? Cillian!" I sing You are My Sunshine to him when I burp him, Old McDonald when he's at the nail depot (what we call getting nails clipped), he loves Pat-a-Cake and Itsy Bitsy Spider and then of course every night I sing Baby Mine to him.
I was telling Doug the other night I didn't realize how perfect the lyrics were for Cillian until I looked up the rest of the song - so now I sing the longer version song to him. He snuggles in on me and then I tuck him in for the night with a million kisses.
Baby mine
Don't you cry
Baby mine
Dry your eyes
Rest your head next to my heart
Never to part
Baby of mine
Little one when you play
Don't you mind what they say
Let your eyes sparkle and shine
Never a tear
Baby of mine
From your head to your toes
You're not big goodness knows
But you're so precious to me
Cute as can be
Baby of mine
We love you so much our sweet darling Cillian!
