Happy Halloween!!!

Happy Halloween!!! I hope you all had wonderful times celebrating and hopefully you got to sneak a piece or two of candy :)

These are when we carved pumpkins in the beginning of the month. It was a lot of fun :) PJ carving party!

We put Cillian into his skeleton pjs the night before Halloween. We discovered they glow in the dark. It was kind of creepy when he was laying in his crib with the lights off ... spooky indeed.

James was SO excited to get to school because this was the first year he could participate in the Halloween Parade at school! We had to pack up his costume so he could change into it at school. When we got to school, he took off his BACKPACK AND JACKET (I know) and carried his outfit into the classroom. Helena and I just looked at each other like, "Who is this child?" Parents were invited to come into the classroom at 10.30 to watch the guys and gals enjoy Halloween treats they had decorated and then get ready to see them in the parade. The weather was very cold but at least the wind had subsided. The days prior to this, we were seeing wind gusts of 55mph. Here are some photos of the classroom time and the parade. I can't believe how much he's grown up sometimes. I just can't.

Trick or treating in our building was from 3-5pm - I'm not really sure who the mastermind behind the timing of that was but I (1) don't think they have children and (2) didn't think about parents who work and would like to be a part of trick or treating with their children. Luckily, Doug was able to come home early from work - he worked through lunch to do it - he is the BEST Dad EVER!!!! Cillian was sound asleep and I was letting James hit up the apartments on our floor when Doug walked down the hallway - James was so excited. I was too. I was feeling so guilty that I couldn't take him. Our neighbors that just moved in - Karen and Bernie (they're originally from Jersey City) - were sharing that the Halloween when their two kids were James and Cillian's ages was the same - Bernie had to come home early to take the oldest. It made me feel so much better :)

Doug took the camera with them when they went through the building but unfortunately, the battery wasn't charged and he only got a few photos - here they are.

And finally, the goodies. My Lawd the goodies. When James dumped it out on the floor the smell was overwhelming. It was a flood of memories of Halloween's past - I love how smells can do that.

Afterwards, we treated James to something really special. We let him decide what movie (his first ever movie) he wanted to watch 30 minutes of before bath. We told him he has been so good - no time outs lately, doing a great job listening to Mom and Dad, having great manners, being such a wonderful brother to Cillian and we thought we could have a big boy movie night. He was so excited. He picked out Little Mermaid to watch. It was so much fun watching his face. He thought Scuttle was funny and was just completely enamoured with Ariel. He's heard her sing in the car but just loved to see her. He did NOT like the storm and the fire on the boat. It scared him a lot but we just kept telling him that Ariel was there to save Eric. That made James love her even more.

Doug and I kind of told James it stops there - when she's up on the rock after the storm singing the "Part of Your World" reprise. He believed us. Ursula and the remainder of the movie may be a bit too intense for him given his reaction to the fire scene. His next movie choices will be Sword and the Stone, Lilo and Stitch, Cinderella and Peter Pan. He LOVES to listen to Cinderella sing and the Fairy Godmother sing. So, we'll see what he picks.

Well, we had a wonderful Halloween and I hope that you did too!

**I want to let you know that our family on the East Coast is okay. Everyone is fine. Thank God. There is severe damage to homes and cars but all the people we love and care about are okay. For that we are grateful. One of my cousins posted this photo on Facebook of Breezy Point where some of my family lives and where we would spend time in the summer at the beach and at my grandparents' house.

It took my breath away. Please pray for the people suffering, especially those residents of Breezy Point, Belle Harbor and Long Beach.**

  1. Love all the pictures, and James in his Fireman outfit is exactly how I always picture him! My girls are in LOVE with the Cinderella movie, and I've realized that unlike a lot of other Disney movies, it isn't very scary. They think the "mean old girls" (stepsisters) are mean but now they go around saying "we don't act like mean girls, we act nice like Cinderella" :) And the mice, oh my goodness, the giggles when they watch the mice! Also, Pocahontas is pretty good (although there are guns in it).
