Party of Four

Back in late December Doug and I shared something with James. We were all sitting on the floor playing and we told him we had something to tell him. We told James that we were going to have a baby. James kind of looked at us and then was quiet. I asked him if he wanted to see a picture of the baby and of the baby's heart beat and he said yes. So I went and got the sonograms and showed him the little tiny being on the film. James smiled. Then he said he wanted to spend the whole day just Daddy, Mommy and James. We really didn't make too big of a deal about the baby around James for a while. We kind of wanted James to come to us about things rather than us pushing things on him and it worked our rather well. Soon he started asking questions about the baby and where it was and if the baby talks, what the baby is wearing in my belly and other things like that. Then pretty soon James also had a baby in his belly :) James has been pretty cute so far about the baby coming. Sometimes he'll walk by my belly and say, "Hi Baby" and then keep walking.

He came with me to one appointment and he heard the heart beat - he was a little weirded out by it but then I told him that the baby was probably saying, "James! Can you hear me?" and he loved it.
We wanted to wait to share it on the blog until we had an appointment when all three of us would be there and that appointment happened last Thursday. It was the 20 week ultrasound. We thought it would be cool for James to see his brother or sister swimming around in there. James and Doug came for the last 10 minutes of the appointment - it crossed over with James' nap time - and the timing was just perfect. I don't think James could have lasted the entire time there. He and Doug walked in and sat down next to where I was laying and James just reached out told hold my hand and he held it the entire time we watched the baby. I really did have to hold back tears. He is just such an amazing child. Even thought James like seeing the baby, he was much more interested in the fancy computer and ultrasound machine. Then yesterday, I had my follow up appointment for the 20 week ultrasound - my doctor's schedule just didn't allow for a direct appointment afterwards. So, Auntie E came over and stayed with James while I got a run down of the ultrasound. Everything looks great (Thank you God) and the baby's heart beats have been music to my ears :) I don't think I can ever even come close to describing how the whoosh whoosh whoosh noises of your little one's heart beat make me feel. It's so surreal. Here's the cutest duo in the world - James and his E.

So, Baby Sennott will be making his/her arrival on or around July 29th. It's very exciting and it's been quite the adventure. The second pregnancy so far has been very much like my pregnancy with James (Thank you God) and we feel very blessed to be able to welcome another person into our little family.

James has been sharing his opinions about a few things concerning the baby. First - my maternity clothes. He does not care for them and told me that I need to get new "eternity shirts." I shared this with Doug and he laughed. But, I will actually need to shop for some new "eternity" clothes for the summer months. Any advice on great stores for skirts and dresses would be much appreciated! James also doesn't want the baby's room to be our study - he likes the computer in here. He pretends to type on it and do work like Daddy :) However, I explained to him that the computer and all the other things will stay but will just be in new places in our apartment. This seemed to appease him :) James originally thought yellow would be a great color for the baby's room ... which we like. But now, James has since changed his opinion to reflect his new favorite color ... wait for it ... orange :)

James has also been telling us all the things he wants to teach the baby and show the baby when the baby comes. He is very excited. James has been asking some questions about the baby - Does the baby have teeth? Does the baby like M&Ms? Can the baby eat the food Mommy eats? Is the baby wearing clothes? When I told him the baby was naked he laughed hysterically. When he finally pulled himself together he asked me, "What baby have Mom?" So we go through two eyes, two ears, a mouth, a nose, arms, legs, a hiney etc. James also thinks that the baby will be a girl. He was asking me and Doug what the baby's name was and we said, we'll see when the baby gets here because we don't know if it's a boy or a girl. James defiantly said it's a girl - so we asked James what her name was and he said, "Mommy Girl." So there's that :)

James is not alone in his gender opinion. Almost everyone tells me they think a girl is on the way to the Sennott family - but, we'll see!! I'm not really partial to either gender - I'm just praying for a healthy baby, a safe pregnancy and delivery and a happy home. It's so exciting! This summer, our little family will grow from a party of three to a party of four :) We cannot wait to meet you little one :)

  1. Such exciting news! Congratulations! James just might be right about you having a girl...my nephew from day one said that he was getting a sister, no hesitation at all, and he was right. A big brother sixth sense, perhaps? Can't wait to see what you do with an orange nursery :)
