A Glimpse of Summer

I had no idea what to think of the weather forecast when I saw it a week and a half ago - days in the 70s and 80s!! In March!! In Chicago!! What on Earth was happening? I have lived in Chicago longer than anywhere else in my life and in August, it'll be 11 years. During this time, I've never seen a March like this. Doug can't even remember one and he's originally from here! Whatever the reason, I knew that it wasn't going to last long and that we better enjoy every second of it. Yesterday afternoon, it rained and today it's raining and we're getting a big cool off - back into the 60s (which are still above avg) and the 50s (more normal). Over the last 8 days, we have been having so much fun outside - it's like we've been treated to short time summer. Here are the photos I managed to get of our adventures.

Yesterday, we spent the entire morning at the zoo - it was just gorgeous outside. Friends of ours from school came down into the city and we had so much fun. Here's James eating snack before our zoo adventure. All those beautiful daffodils have bloomed - I really hope there's not a nasty frost in our future - all the poor flowers!!

When we walked into the small reptile house, they were doing a training session with a snake and James and Kate (his pal from school) got to touch it! James was so brave!! James thought the snakes tongue going in and out was neat and he kept saying, "hissssss" to the snake. It was such a great opportunity! I realize the photo is dark but I only had my phone handy and not the camera.

And here are James and Kate ... aren't they adorable? :)

We have been so lucky to enjoy this weather! And now ... back to our regularly scheduled spring :)
