Name That Tune

Music is a big part of our lives and I don't mean that in a cheesy way. I mean, Doug and I love music. It is just a part of us - we talk about it, listen to it, play it, go hear it live, sing it - it's just a part of us and something is always on in the house. Naturally, James is developing his own musical tastes and is now voicing his own musical opinions. We have requests lately. . .

The interesting thing is and for those of you with young guys and gals or have ever been around 'the toddler' you know that language is developing. So, obviously James can't say, "Mom or Dad, I would love to listen to _______ right now please. I'm just in the mood to hear it. Thanks so much."

Instead we get a toddlerized version of the song title or lyric. Here are the most requested. He's got a pretty wide range in music preference :)  The list will surely grow as his language does. On the right is the "James" version and following is the translation :)

Oh, Oh, Oh - At or With Me, Jack Johnson

Da, da, dada, dada - Bubble Toes, Jack Johnson

Makes a bird sound - Three Little Birds, Bob Marley

Aaaaa, Aaaaaa, Aaaaa, Nate - Twist and Shout, Beatles (Nathan plays this in Ukulele class)

Yeah, Yeah, Yeah - Dream Lover, Bobby Darin

Whoa, Whoa, Whoa - Mrs. Robinson, Simon & Garfunkel

Julio - Me and Julio Down by the School Yard, Paul Simon

Oh Oh (with dancing) - Til the World Ends, Brittney Spears (all my fault - 100% - got stuck in my head and kept singing it one day - so sorry James!)

Nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh - James Bond theme

Howling - Hey There Little Red Riding Hood, Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs
or
Hey Bulldog, Beatles

Hi, Die - Hello, Goodbye, Beatles

Nah Nah Hey J - Hey Jude, Beatles

BBoys - This is the Beastie Boys - it's a challenge, but there are songs with no bad words or drug references ... there are two and then there are instrumentals :)

Makes a diamond with his hands - Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, Beatles

Mimics playing/sounding like a trumpet/saxophone - any John Coltrane

Os'm - Possum, Phish

Ong None (song one) - You and Your Heart, Jack Johnson

Shooting sound - I Shot the Sheriff, Bob Marley

Mambo Mambo - Mambo Italiano

Nah Nah Nah - Land of 1000 Dances, Wilson Picket

I-yer, I-yer - Your Love (Liftin' me Higher), Jackie Wilson

Know? Know? Bluuuuueeeee - Somewhere over the Rainbow (his lullaby)

"Without music, life would be a mistake." Friedrich Nietzsche

  1. I love this! He listens to "real" music?! His tastes are much better than the girls' tastes...they scream "music, music" in the car (even though MY music is on) until I put the kiddie CD's in. Sigh.
