I would like to thank Doug for bringing my 2002 laptop back to life so we can update the blog complete with photos! Thank you!!!!!
We just got back from our first family vacation! Well yes, we've traveled before with James but this was the first time we were just on our own not visiting family for a wedding or for a holiday! It was such the adventure. We went to Dallas for Doug's 10 year college reunion! Mine is next year :) Perhaps we'll go again! We had so much fun taking James to SMU. We got to see a good number of our friends from college and their adorable kiddies! It's so much fun to see this next generation. Hanging out was a little different this time. The little ones had their naptimes, their dinners, and of course diaper changes, teething and all sorts of other exciting things! Like .... double ear infections. That's right. On Friday, we just knew something was up with James and we took him to the Minute Clinic and sure enough, double ear infection. I called the on-call doctor for our doctor's office just to double check everything with her and she said everything sounded great and was happy we went to the Minute Clinic instead of a public clinic or ER. We'll be coming in for James 18 month appt on Friday so we'll get his ears checked then as well.
Anyway, we had a marvelous time and got to stay at our favorite hotel. James loved eating hot of the griddle pancakes and fresh berries every morning. I didn't realize how much he loved it until this morning when we were at home and he saw his Cheerios and said blankly, "no." I then via some miracle found a frozen blueberry waffle in the freezer that he was much more open to eating. James also was able to eat standing up, sitting on our laps, or picnic-style on the carpet because we didn't have a high chair in the hotel room and a lot of the places we ate at didn't have one either. I don't think I need to tell you that someone is not enjoying the high chair today. Won't eat out of it. So .... things are interesting. However, I'm sure after a few days home, we'll get back into our routines again. Hopefully. He is also taking his nap two hours early today. Oy.
We took James to our beautiful campus, to Hyer Hall, where Mom had her classes, to the business school where Daddy had his classes and to both of Mom and Dad's dorms. We didn't go in, just outside. We took James to Dallas Hall and then to the fountain in the middle of campus. James LOVED the fountain. We also went to Hughes-Trigg the student center for snack. We were all over the place! We got to eat at some of our favorite places with James and we were so glad he enjoyed the food as much as we did.
On Saturday, we took James to the Boulevard to well, "Boulevard" and we had some delicious brisket, baked beans and potato salad. We had stopped at Eatzi's for a little deli meat and cheese platter to bring with for James which ended up being perfect for him for lunch. We hung out until around 1:30 when the rain really started coming down and thanks so Dad’s cool radar app (yes, I admit that it’s cool) we could see the huge red cell headed right for us. So, because of the rain and the ear infections, Mom took James back to the hotel for a nap and Dad hung out with his buddies. Then Mom and James picked Dad up around 5ish at La Madeleine and we all went to Burger House for dinner before heading to the Green Elephant to see people to say goodbye before we went back to our hotel. Before we got back to the hotel, we stopped to show James the giant teddy bears in Turtle Creek. Mom and Dad had lots of picnics there during college. James loved them. Just like we knew he would.
Here are some photos from the weekend.
Hanging out post-flight.
