On Saturday, we took James to the Chicago Botanic Gardens. We were having a fabulous time and the weather was just gorgeous. It was time for James to eat and we walked up to a little area in the shade. It was perfect - little tables and chairs and a little built in bench in a stone wall. So we were sitting on the bench and Doug asked me what time it was and I said it was a little before 4pm. So I started feeding James. We were sitting right next to the bell tower and I asked, "Do you think those go off every hour?" Before Doug could answer, BING BONG BING BONG and then four very long and very loud bell tolls sounded. The only thing louder than the bells? The sound of our son screaming crying.
Today, James and I went for our walk to the park across the street. We got to our bench and I put his hoodie on and picked him up. It was so nice out - we're having the nicest weather right now - it was 81 out! James was feeling the wind come off the lake and his little eyes blinking as a reaction were just melting my heart. Then three bicyclists rode by laughing and one of them said, "Well, at least it's good luck." I thought to myself, what a strange comment to make. Then I looked down on my arm and there it was - bird poop - on my arm and on James' hand. Ew. Needless to say, we walked home really really fast and got ourselves clean. The next time we got to the park, I think we'll go to a bench that's not directly beneath a tree.
