Today was the big day. Today James went into a classroom for the first time and met his first teacher - Angela. We also met the teacher's aide Mary. Both Angela and Mary were as sweet as could be and we had a great intro class. Montessori does a 'phase-in' for each child. So, alphabetically, each child gets his or her own time with the teachers and Mom or Dad during the first week. James got his today. Next week, the first 5 children (alphabetically) meet for the class time on Tuesday and the next 5 children will meet on Thursday. James is on Thursday of next week. Then, on Tuesday, September 21st, the entire class will have class time together. They have a schedule of playtime, snack time and then gross-motor time and then music and singing. The classroom was so clean, so neat, and the teachers were just so friendly and warm and welcoming.
James and Mom went to a meet and greet on Tuesday morning as well and James loved playing on the playground and watching all the other children run around and play. He was especially observant of the older boys who could CLIMB up the stairs and slide down the slide. He tried to imitate the climbing. I cannot describe how adorable it was. We played for almost an hour and then walked to the car together.
I think James loved hearing "big boy" and "school" over the last couple of days and I think he knows something special is going on right now too. We took pictures this morning. My mom always took our picture on our front stoop in front of the front door - we don't have a stoop but we do have a front door - James was very into the cameras and not into standing still so a lot of the photos are 'action shots' if you will :o)
